What might we do differently next year?

Could we get the generator/fuel delivery set up for Sunday or Monday?

Maybe rent a large storage unit for the month prior to BM to use as a staging space for stuff that needs to go on a truck? Keep a rough inventory with weight estimates?

If we bring the freezers again, maybe bring fifty pounds of dry ice to jumpstart/refreeze them throughout the week?

More full-spectrum lasering.

More ignitable flame effects, higher/larger flame-balls.

  1. Encircle the dance floor with six or eight tall art structures that have continuous flame to provide lighting, atmosphere and warmth. Design ideas already brewing...

Simpler/fool-proof water heater system.

More compact and less messy evaporation system.

Schedule some of the building/setup tasks for nighttime, when the less hardy of us can help. Advance distribution of the build steps would also help in terms of folks knowing when and how they'd be needed.

Simpler lighting??? With only half the lights working, we made a great impact! Plus we'd need less lighting if we have extra fire...

Design and build the lighting rig pre-playa install. Have cables neatly attached to truss with clearly labeled break points. Program ahead as well. TEST everything! Then it's almost plug-n-play on-site.

Shifts shorter than six hours. Even if it is "chill", that's half the day or night spent on duty in camp!

  1. Ensure that we have responsible non-flaky SCs and ASCs!!!!! Some campers had to wear the vest a lot more than they signed up for (mad props to Mr. Levy). (and Ari) (and Benjy)

  2. No late night and early morning (3-6 am) MOOP shifts. It's hard to see little bits of trash in the dark.

  3. Disagree! Picked up lots of MOOP in the dark! Keeping it clean prevents rampant build-up and trash blowing about!

A satellite phone would be a great way to minimize the impact of things like delayed vehicles and forgotten equipment. It looks like we could rent a satphone for around $100. [WWW]satphone rental

Clear decisions about camp radio channel(s) *before* we go.

Not rent portapotties, they're more trouble than they're worth.

  1. that was true this time, but let's see where we're located in relation to public portos next year

  2. if portos are rented again, they'd at least need to be hidden from the street.(with better locks)

Clearer separation between camp and public areas to improve security.

Possibly snow fence as barriers behind stage and to separate our private chill area/tent from public space. It would be easier to patrol clearly defined spaces.

More downtempo in the wee hours (5:00 am?) campout style.

Complete this sentence: Next year it'd be fucking awesome if we...

...had a cooled/heated dome.

  1. A simple misting system (done right, they use surprisingly little water), possibly using reclaimed grey water.

  2. We could get a couple of those outdoor gas heaters for the CF tent or dome.

...had a bus with sound system and fire art that matches the dance floor

  1. it could provide another space for DJs to play (or just recorded music)

  2. good for kidnapping peeps wandering the playa and delivering them to our dance floor

  3. more rides for campers who keep missing the dusty crack wagon

  4. we could throw parties at art installations on the open playa

...had a large custom-designed/built structure over our dance floor (veteran-burner Bruce had a kick-ass shade structure design that could possibly adapted for a larger space. a simple buttress system and guy lines that don't extend beyond the structure itself. it's strength allowed him to hang around on the PVC like a monkey.)

...started fundraising and planning earlier in the year

...had another uniform/costume for SCA/greeter/security/etc.

...had an OBSERVATION TOWER, like some scaffolding, 10-20 feet up, large enough to hold about ten people.
